Department of Neighborhood and Community Services

City of Brunswick, Georgia

The Department of Neighborhood and Community Services programs are designed to provide decent and affordable housing, provide a suitable living environment and empower low to moderate income citizens of Brunswick. These programs are designed to encourage the self sufficiency of the recipients, stabilize and strengthen older neighborhoods, and promote a safe, healthy and prosperous community as a whole.

We administer a variety of programs funded through Housing and Urban Development and the Georgia Department of Community Affairs that include housing rehabilitation, emergency assistance to the disabled and elderly, and assistance with the removal of slum and blight conditions. Through our partnerships with local public service agencies we seek to strengthen the community outreach to people affected by abuse, homelessness, and fragmented families.

This department also oversees the operations of The Roosevelt Lawrence Community Center which provides youth services including afterschool care promoting literacy, homework help and tutoring and summer camp serving 200 students on an annual basis.

Furthermore, to enrich and promote a better quality life for senior citizens this department provides wellness activities and a hot mid-day meal for our aging population 60 and above at The Roosevelt Harris, Jr. Senior Citizens Center.

The Department of Neighborhood and Community Services coordinates with Neighborhood Planning Assemblies (NPAs) across the city. NPAs are grassroots, neighborhood organization to encourage citizen participation in City government.
