What is a Comprehensive Plan?
A Comprehensive Plan is the City's primary guide for managing future growth and development.
This includes not just new buildings, but also the protection of natural areas, the preservation of cultural
features, and the provision of community facilities such as roads, sidewalks, sewers, and parks.
The Comprehensive Plan will have three parts:
- Public Participation Plan
- A plan for how to get the public involved in the planning process.
- Community Assessment
- An overview of the state of the community, including a review of the City's population, housing, economic
development, transportation, cultural resources, natural resources, and community facilities.
- Community Agenda
- A guide to future physical development and to addressing the issues and opportunities that are of concern
to the Brunswick community.
Why is the Comprehensive Plan important?
The Comprehensive Plan will establish for the City:
- A Vision Statement about the City's future
- Priority Issues and Opportunities for the City to address through public policy
- Appropriate development types for different districts of the City (also known as "Character Areas")
- A Short Term Work Program that will establish priority actions for City of Brunswick over the next five years.
How can I influence the contents of the Comprehensive Plan?
There are many ways to have input into the Comprehensive Plan:
- Attend a public meeting or focus group session
- Review and comment on draft documents that are posted to the City's website
- Call or email the Community Development Department for the City of Brunswick
