Licensing Requirements
As of July 1, 2008, General Contractors are required to be licensed in the State of Georgia. Also, Electrical, Mechanical,
and Plumbing contractors are required to hold a Georgia State license.
Permit Requirements
The building permit is not all inclusive. Electrical, Mechanical, and Plumbing subcontractors must pull a separate permit
in addition to the building permit that is pulled by the General Contractor.
Code Enforcement
This office is responsible for permits necessary in new construction, renovation, heating, air, plumbing,
electrical, signs, plan approval, and demolitions. In addition, it will oversee all projects to make sure the City
of Brunswick Ordinances and the International Codes are strictly adhered too. For more information on the International
Code Council, visit their website at www.iccsafe.org.
For more information
on the City of Brunswick Ordinances, click on Municipal Codes.
Out of State Contractors
The City of Brunswick requires that all out of state contractors obtain a City of Brunswick business license,
unless they hold a valid business license in another Georgia jurisdiction. General Contractors from out of
state must have a valid Georgia contractor's license. Out of state, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
contractors must hold a State of Georgia license for those trades.
Plan Approval
Construction plans will be approved when all requirements are met. A staff planning meeting is scheduled
for every Wednesday in order to review projects that are waiting to obtain a building permit.
If the building plans meet all requirements, it will typically take one week to approve.
Jurisdiction
The City of Brunswick Building Department's jurisdiction is only within
the City Limits of Brunswick. If your project is located outside the City
Limits, you will need to contact the Glynn County Building Department at 912-554-7456.
