The City of Brunswick is a Mayor-Council/City Manager form of Government. The City Commission consists of five individuals, four Commissioners and a Mayor. The Mayor's position on the Commission is to serve as the Chairperson. The Mayor and Commissioners are elected at-large by all the electors voting in a municipal election and are elected on a part-time basis.
The City is divided into two wards, north and south, with two residents from each ward elected, with the Mayor's seat being at large. Each member of the Commission, excluding Mayor, shall serve for a term(s) of four years, or until a successor is elected. The Mayor may serve for two terms only, but may then qualify to run for Commissioner from his/her ward without a waiting period. The official duty of the Mayor and Commissioners is to set policy for the City and to see that this policy is carried out by the City Manager.
All Commission meetings are held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month at Old City Hall, located at 1229 Newcastle Street, in Historic Downtown Brunswick, at 6:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public.
